If

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard, “If these things you teach or write about were important they would be in the scriptures!”

If we are going to use the scriptures as the criteria for what we are going to study, then why in the world are we not discussing the “how it is done” for the following events in Sunday school, Fellowships, or other classes? The majority of what has been taught in our classes, seminars, workshops, or books are from the scriptures.

Below are a few of the many scriptures that talk about these events. It would be well worth your time to look them up.

Healing all manner of sickness and disease. (Matt. 4:23)

Those possessed with devils healed. (Matt. 4:24; there are numerous references to this)

Cleansing leprosy with the touch of a hand. (Matt. 8:3)

Healing from a distance. (Matt. 8:5-13)

Cast out devils. (Matt. 8:16; 9:32-33)

Cast out unclean spirits. (Luke 8:29)

Clearing the weather. (Matt. 8:26)

Hearing others thoughts. (Matt. 9:4; Matt. 12:25; Luke 6:8)

Raising the dead. (Matt. 9:18-25)

Restoring sight to the blind. (Matt. 9:27-30)

Receiving His image in our countenance. Alma 5:14)

Evil spirits returning to a person. (Matt. 12:43-45)

Manifesting food. (Matt. 14:15-21; Matt. 15:32-38)

Walking on water. (Matt. 14:25)

Manifesting money. (Matt. 17:27)

Satan can bind us with bonds. (Luke 13:16)

God speed or teleportation. (John 6:21)

Father and Son will come and make their abode with us. (John 14:23)

Shielding. (Helaman 16:2,6)

The Savior using his warriors, young men, and those of middle age redeem His vineyard. (D&C 101:55-58)

I will end the list here. There are others such as invisibility, but the above are enough to get the point across. There are many events in the scriptures that one might consider to be “metaphysical” or miraculous. They all follow Natural Law and rules. Did not the Lord Jesus declare, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” (John 14:12)

It is interesting to me that casting out devils, demons and unclean spirits is mentioned so often in the scriptures yet so many believe they can’t be touched by the Adversary or his minions. If you believe this, they already own you. Is it what the LDS psychiatrists and family counselors told my attorney friend years ago at their annual meeting? To paraphrase them, those who were doing these things “didn’t understand how the mind works like we do now.” Were these people saying that the Lord Jesus Christ didn’t understand how the mind works?

There are many gifts of the Spirit listed above. They are available to all that desire to follow the Savior and do His will.
